Industrial batteries

# Industrial batteries over 2 kWh: a passport per unit, data per model version

Not every large battery is a stationary storage system. For traction batteries of forklifts, batteries in UPS systems and machines the passport is required from 18 February 2027 as well, as soon as they are industrial batteries with more than 2 kWh. BatteryPass assigns every unit to the right category and shows which fields are required there.

What applies

## What applies to industrial batteries over 2 kWh

### Passport from the start date

Every industrial battery with more than 2 kWh that is placed on the market or put into service from 18 February 2027 needs a battery passport (Art. 77(1)).

### Performance values under Annex IV

For rechargeable industrial batteries over 2 kWh a document with performance and durability values is already required (Art. 10). Minimum values follow only with a delegated act.

### A QR code for all

Regardless of capacity, all batteries carry a QR code from 18 February 2027; for batteries with a passport it leads to the passport (Art. 13).

With BatteryPass

## How BatteryPass helps with industrial batteries

### The right category

The requirement rules depend on the category, such as stationary storage or another industrial battery. BatteryPass shows per model version what is required, conditional or required later.

### Variants from the ERP

Many variants, few differences: import master data and serial numbers from spreadsheets or ERP exports and enter only the differing values per version.

### Returns and repairs

Repairs, returns and condition data land in the unit's history; the passport shows the current state.

## Frequently asked questions about industrial batteries

### What is an industrial battery?

Under Art. 3 of the Battery Regulation, a battery specifically designed for industrial uses or intended for industrial uses after preparation for repurposing or repurposing, and any other battery over 5 kg that is neither an electric vehicle battery, an LMT battery nor an SLI battery.

### Do industrial batteries up to 2 kWh need a passport?

No, the passport applies only above 2 kWh. But from 18 February 2027 all batteries need a QR code with information about the battery (Art. 13).

### Our batteries have no BMS. What then?

Our field registry has a separate category for industrial batteries without a BMS, as the Battery Pass consortium data model does. In the current registry version it has the same requirement rules as other industrial batteries. BatteryPass shows per model version which fields are required, conditional or required later for your model; the list is on the [data fields](https://kabin.sh/en/battery-passport/data-fields) page.

### Is a UPS battery a stationary storage system?

That depends on the case, above all on whether it stores energy from the grid and delivers it to users. Record your classification with its reasons; BatteryPass stores the category per model.
