# BatteryPass > BatteryPass is web software with which manufacturers and importers of batteries collect, verify, approve and keep providing the data of the EU digital battery passport (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542), with clear responsibilities and traceable changes. BatteryPass is a software product of the company behind BatteryPass. It is not the Battery Pass consortium (thebatterypass.eu), not its "BatteryPass" data model and not a public authority. The website is in German (default, at the root) and English (under /en); every page has a Markdown version at its URL plus `.md`. ## What BatteryPass does - Imports existing data: spreadsheets (CSV, XLSX) and ERP exports with proposed column mapping, unit conversion, row checks and an error report; serial number ranges. - Separates model, model version and unit: data is maintained once per version; a new version shows which units it affects before approval. - Records provenance for every value (source, evidence, responsible person, review status, history) and turns every missing required field into a task. - Asks suppliers by link, without an account, for exactly the fields that are missing. - Applies four-eyes review, automatic format and cross-field checks, and a requirement status per field and battery category from a versioned field registry. - Publishes signed, versioned passports with access tiers enforced on the server (public, legitimate interest, authorities), GS1 Digital Link QR codes and a resolver; every version stays retrievable by date. - Keeps passports current after sale: condition data, repairs, second life (a repurposed battery gets its own passport linked to the original). - Exports everything in a documented format; an API with organisation keys, import by key, a change feed and an MCP server for AI tools; ERP integration patterns for 17 systems. ## What BatteryPass does not do - It does not certify anything, and it is not registered with or approved by the EU: no such certification or registration exists for battery passport software. - It does not submit passports to the EU registry yet; the registry has been running with a testing environment since 20 July 2026, but its API and its battery data model are not complete yet. - It does not take over the economic operator's legal responsibility for the accuracy of the passport data. - It does not calculate carbon footprints, generate labels or offer ready-made ERP connectors (integration patterns over the API only). ## Status As of 2026-10-25: no customer runs BatteryPass in production yet, so almost every feature is "in testing"; access to restricted tiers is "limited" until the EU implementing act under Art. 77(9) defines who may read; managed ERP connections and EU registry submission are "planned". The home page lists every feature with its status. ## Key facts (from the facts registry of the product) - The battery passport is required for LMT batteries, industrial batteries with a capacity above 2 kWh and EV batteries placed on the EU market from 18 February 2027 (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, Art. 77). - Supply-chain due diligence obligations apply from 18 August 2027. - Access to the passport has three levels (Art. 77(2) and Annex XIII): the public;
